Overview

A Workshop on Change Making in the Theatre Sector.

Sat 25 Oct, 10.30am - 1.30pm | Rockvilla, Glasgow

Thu 30 Oct, 6.30pm - 8.30pm | Online

Freelancers in EX/CHANGE is a free workshop for freelancers sharing back initial research from Project EX/CHANGE, exploring new models, working practices, and possibilities for change in the theatre industry.

Facilitated by Andrea Ling, Director Fellow at NTS. Andrea is an artist and facilitator, undertaking an 18-month fellowship with NTS, funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, through which she is pursuing her independent research initiative, Project EX/CHANGE.

Project EX/CHANGE is a research project exploring how the theatre sector can innovate to create sustainable and equitable practices by rethinking the relationship between freelancers and institutions. Building on previous consultations at NTS and sector-wide surveys with freelancers, including the Big Freelancer Survey, Project EX/CHANGE creates space to explore future models and collaboration to support the theatre sector.

In the workshop you will:

• Learn more about Project EX/CHANGE and its research findings so far, specifically information on supporting freelancers within institutions

• Join cross-sector discussions and connect with fellow freelancers over tea/coffee and sweet treats

• Take part in reimagining working models for freelancers in the theatre industry

• Explore the freelancer–organisation relationship with an ambition for sector-wide change.

All freelancers welcome: stage managers, directors, designers, technicians, writers, performers, producers and more.

Spaces will be assigned in order to ensure an even spread of freelancers from various roles within the theatre industry. Spaces will also be reserved for freelancers who identify with a protected characteristic (e.g. global majority, disabled, LGBTQIA+ or other marginalised identities).

The discussions and contributions from this workshop will feed into Project EX/CHANGE, which has been set up independently for the sole benefit of the freelance community. The learning will contribute to new models and frameworks that will be published and shared back with the sector.
