Hello and welcome to our page dedicated to Artists.
Find out more about us, our process and how you can get involved here.

We aim to be a “theatre for everyone”.

We particularly want to hear from artists whose voices, stories and communities have been underrepresented and underserved by the theatre industry.

To begin building these new connections, we offer a range of free, year-round opportunities for artists, as well as a range of paid opportunities, all available through open call to help.

Free opportunities include:

  • Script Reading Programme – open all year round
  • Access to Resources – access to in-kind expertise and advice, space and equipment
  • Attendance at your work/sharings
  • Rehearsal shadowing, workshops, discussions with our programmed artists, attending our shows, script surgeries, introduction meetings and a whole series of other opportunities are offered by open call throughout the year.
  • Feedback on audition self tapes
  • Acting and performance workshops

Paid opportunities include:

  • Artist Residencies
  • Creative team roles on our productions
  • Trainee, Assistant and Associate positions on our projects, across a range of roles

Information about these opportunities will appear our dedicated vacancies and opportunities page when they go live but to make sure you’re the first to hear about them, sign up to our mailing list here

The Fellowship Programme

The National Theatre of Scotland’s creative cultural leader Fellowship programme is designed to support creatives to experiment, be bold, brave and take creative risks within a supportive environment.

Over 18 months, three Fellows will be part of the Artistic Development department, they will develop their skills in Producing, Dramaturgy, or Directing/ Being a Lead Artist and will be embedded in artistic decision-making practices and processes across the organisation.

Each Fellow will be given dedicated time to design and deliver a project within NTS. They will also have supported time for their own research project which explores change-making.

Their research project could be something new they want to explore, or it could be about having supported time to develop a change-making project they have recently started undertaking personally.

During the programme there will be regular check-ins with the Head of HR, focussed on the personal goals of the Fellows as well as meetings with the wider cohort of Fellows. The Fellows will be supported to build new relationships with key partners and further opportunities within the sector will be identified post Fellowships.

The Fellowship Programme is supported by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

The Artistic Development team form part of the company's artistic team and lead the seeking, generating and driving of ideas into our programme.
