About Shereen Nanjiani
Shereen Nanjiani is a journalist and broadcaster who was the main presenter of STV’s 'Scotland Today' news programme for more than twenty years.
She joined STV straight from university in 1983, having achieved an MA Honours in Philosophy at Glasgow University, and began as a trainee journalist working her way up to be a reporter and then presenter.
Over the years Shereen reported on all the major stories from Lockerbie and Dunblane to the opening of the new Scottish Parliament.
Her career has taken her to many of the world’s trouble-spots, reporting on the plight of the AIDS orphans in Romania, the first multi-racial elections in South Africa, the Afghan refugee camps in Pakistan post 9/11, the famine and AIDS pandemic in Zambia and Eritrea.
In addition to news she has also presented documentary series, hosted live debates, award ceremonies, and Election Specials.
Shereen left STV in May 2006 to go freelance. Since then she has been working with BBC Radio Scotland presenting arts, news and current affairs, and phone-in programmes. She has her own Saturday morning radio show, “Shereen”, a topical discussion show and she co-hosted the BBC TV current affairs show Timeline.
She also hosts corporate events and conferences.
In addition to her professional career, Shereen has undertaken a number of roles in the voluntary sector. She is an Ambassador for St Vincent’s Hospice.
She served as a Panel Member for the Children’s Hearing system for ten years. For seven years she was Chair of Ankur Productions, a Scottish BAME Arts organization helping artistic talent from ethnic minority backgrounds progress in the mainstream arts sector.
She has been on the Board of Tron Theatre, Glasgow since 2013 and was Chairperson from 2017-2024.
She joined the National Theatre of Scotland Board in June 2019.
She was appointed MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2019.
