Marie Williamson
About Marie Williamson
Growing up in north Edinburgh, Marie Wiliamson attended dance classes in community centres, school football games, judo classes, and creating an imaginary city with friends in a tiny forest in the middle of West Pilton. Since then, Marie has studied at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (BA Hons Degree) and at London Contemporary Dance School for an MA in Screendance. She has been an aerial dancer and community engagement facilitator, performing in live spectacle work, as well as delivering projects to youth & community groups across Scotland.
As a working class & neurodivergent artist, the arts being open for all is at the forefront of her practice, and always putting the person first in any project is at her core. Her practice has led her to work with all body types and abilities both physically and cognitively, as well as focusing work for people who don’t have an easy way into the arts.
Some of the companies she’s worked with include All or Nothing Aerial Dance Theatre, Rowan Environmental Arts, National Theatre of Scotland, Community Circus Paisley, WHALE Arts, North Edinburgh Arts.
As an artist Marie’s work is influenced by her passions in life, which embed political activism, nature (ecology and land reform) & retelling stories of people in places to amplify their voices; and is continuing to find a way to capture the creative intersection of her own Venn diagram.
Marie is currently on the board as a trustee for Screen Education Edinburgh.
