Apphia Campbell is an American playwright, actress, producer, and singer, and a graduate of Florida International University with a BFA in Theatre Performance. Her critically acclaimed solo work Black Is The Color Of My Voicepremiered in Shanghai to rave reviews, sold out at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and has since toured internationally, including celebrated runs at St. James Theatre, Wilton’s Music Hall, Oxford Playhouse, and London’s West End, most recently in early 2026. The production has also received major awards in Australia.
She co-created Woke with Meredith Yarbrough, earning a Scotsman Fringe First and Amnesty International’s Highly Commended Award. The work was later reimagined as Through The Mud, which opened at the Lyceum Theatre and toured internationally.
Apphia’s screen and writing credits include BBC productions The Novels That Shaped the World and Urban Myths, the children’s story Zachary The Zebroid, and collaborations with the National Theatre of Scotland. She has served on the board of the Edinburgh Fringe Society, was an IASH Playwriting Fellow with the Traverse Theatre, and is a member of The Writers Lab Europe.
Her performance credits include Black Is The Color Of My Voice, Through The Mud, We Will Hear the Angels, The Last Bordello, and The Color Purple.
