Theatre in Schools Scotland
What We Do
A year long programme of shows touring to Scottish schools and nurseries
Theatre in Schools Scotland (TiSS), produced by Imaginate and the National Theatre of Scotland, continues to bring bold, inspiring live theatre and dance productions made specially for children and young people into Scotland’s schools and nurseries.
TiSS creates ongoing opportunities for schools to host performances in their school halls and local communities, offering a programme of productions created for younger audiences. The annual touring programme is informed by teachers and features Scottish performing companies and artists specialising in theatre and dance for young people. Productions are designed specifically with schools in mind and the programme is year-round and available to book anywhere in Scotland.
TiSS is delighted to be back in the tour van once more this year, creatively reconnecting with pupils and teachers across Scotland.

Maya and the Whale is a brand new show for 2023 created and performed by writer and theatre-maker Hazel Darwin-Clements, directed by Lewis Hetherington and produced by Independent Arts Projects. The production tells the story of a young climate activist on the run, who comes face to face with a dying whale. Aimed at older primary and lower secondary pupils this is a darkly comic and provocative solo performance for a generation faced with unprecedented challenges.
Touring to schools February and March 2023.
