About Uzma Mir
With 30 years of experience working across radio and television as a director, producer and executive producer Uzma worked for BBC Scotland for the first 16 years of her career across a variety of genres from Features and Documentary to Education and Children’s. Latterly, she was an executive producer at CBBC Scotland working on award-winning shows like
Balamory, Raven and factual entertainment show Rule the School, as well as
executive producing Series 3 of the sci-fi drama Jeopardy. She set up Turmeric Media in 2008 as a way of balancing having a young family and working, gaining a
steady flow of commissions over the years in Factual, Learning and radio comedy
and drama. She produced and directed RTS highly commended documentary After Sheku about the death of a Black man in police custody. From 2019 to 2022 she returned to the BBC, executive producing 60 episodes of the popular family drama Molly and Mack for CBeebies. In 2022 she was also Series Producer on Series 1 of drama Olga Da Polga based on the books by Michael Bond (working for production company Maramedia). She has been a mentor for the Scottish Documentary Institute’s mentoring programme, a weekly columnist for the
Herald newspaper and is a regular jury member for both BAFTA Scotland and Royal
Television Society Scotland awards. She’s also a board member of Bijli Productions -
a diverse-focussed theatre production company.
