About Johnny McKnight
Johnny is an award-winning writer, director, actor and performer. His critically acclaimed play WENDY HOOSE, produced by Birds of Paradise and Random Accomplice, toured London and Europe and Johnny is currently under commission to the National Theatre of Scotland, as well as the Tron Theatre, Dundee Rep Theatre and Macrobert Arts Centre. Johnny wrote the book for the musical adaptation of 101 DALMATIANS, which premiered at Regents Park Open Air Theatre and is preparing for summer run in London. Johnny recently directed the Scottish Premiere of Philip Ridley’s Radiant Vermin at The Tron Theatre to rave reviews (nominated for four Critics Awards Scotland 2025). He has been described as ‘the new vanguard of pantomime’ in the national press with over 32 productions under his belt, multiple Panto UK Awards and nominations.
For screen, Johnny is currently developing a range of projects with companies include Fable and Synchronicity Films. He is currently on the Writer Spotlight Scheme with BBC Studios. He has served as part of the core writing team on RIVER CITY (BBC) having written over 45 episodes to date, with his anniversary episode of River City winning Best Drama at the RTS Scotland awards.
