Gerald Richards is the Co-Founder and Director of B & G, a consultancy that believes individuals and organisations flourish best by being creative, clear about their purpose and by telling a better story about what they do. B & G aims to help inspire in their clients the confidence and capacity to learn, grow and take on change. Offering a range of workshops, bespoke training programmes, and individual coaching, the consultancy works in both London and Edinburgh. With more than 30 years of experience in leadership and management of third sector organisations, Gerald most recently spent 5 and a half years as the Founding CEO of the Super Power Agency (www.superpoweragency.com), a nonprofit focused on youth writing and creative expression based in Edinburgh. During his tenure, the organisation worked with more than 5,000 primary and high school aged young people in twenty-five schools across Scotland.
From 2010 - 2017, Gerald was the Chief Executive Officer of 826 National, where he led the strategic direction, administration and building of resources for the network of affiliate organisations located in nine US cities, as well the establishment of affiliates in additional US and international cities. He also led the organisation’s nationwide DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) initiatives to create a more inclusive network.
His nonprofit career includes executive positions at the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) and UNCF; as well as managerial positions at the University of California, San Francisco; the J. David Gladstone Institutes; Chicago Panel on Social Policy; and The Cradle Foundation. Gerald currently also serves on the board of the Academy of American Poets, the Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust, The Fagus Anstruther Memorial Trust, and has served on the boards of several other US organisations including Newbury College, My Path US, and Thousand Currents.
