Forbes Masson most recently played Dr Dorn in James Brining’s inaugural 5-star production of The Seagull at The Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh. His acclaimed solo performance of Jekyll and Hyde, by leading Scottish playwright Gary McNair was described as a “masterclass in acting and storytelling” (Lyceum Theatre and Scottish tour). His extensive theatre credits include Much Ado About Nothing and The Tempest (Jamie Lloyd Productions at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane), Farm Hall (Jermyn Street Theatre, Bath Theatre Royal and Tour), The Taxidermist’s Daughter (Chichester Festival Theatre) and The Boy in the Dress, and 8 seasons working with Michael Boyd at the Royal Shakespeare Company including Twelfth Night, The Histories, As You Like It. He is now an associate artist with the RSC and National Theatre of Scotland and he is known for appearances in Only Child (BBC), The Crown (Netflix) Crime, EastEnders, Red Dwarf (BBC) and Catastrophe (Channel 4). He has appeared in countless audio dramas on BBC, Big Finish and Audible.
His writing credits include Victor and Barry (Edinburgh Festival/Donmar Warehouse/Australian tour), Stiff (Tron Theatre Glasgow /Lyceum) and Mince (Dundee Rep). For many years Forbes held the torch of writing the remarkable groundbreaking Tron Theatre Pantomime, which Johnny McKnight now brilliantly holds.
He is currently playing Harold in the Tony award winning play Orphans by Lyle Kessler at Jermyn Street Theatre in London’s West End and will soon be playing Gloucester in King Lear at Pitlochry Festival Theatre. He is really excited that in Autumn 2026 he will be performing on Broadway NYC for the very first time.
