Last Dream (On Earth)

July - August 2016

A spacesuit against a black background. Reflected in the glass of the astronaut's helmet there is a flipflop on a dusty terrain.

Overview

A traveller stands on a beach in Morocco with a group of friends. Tonight they will try it. Tonight, they are getting ready for a journey to change their lives. Here, we will never know their names.

Decades earlier, a young man is strapped into a tiny sphere. He is ready for his mission: to become the first Human Being in Outer Space. His name, we will soon known, is Yuri Gagarin. As if out of nowhere, a musical dialogue starts. Words are spoken, the story of a trip of a lifetime emerges. It is a story of hope, dreams, beauty and sheer inhumanity.

Last Dream (On Earth) interweaves a driving music score with accounts of those who risk their lives for a distant dream. Audiences experience an immersive sound world on headphones, as it is created and performed in front of them, in this production which won the Critics Award for Theatre in Scotland for Best Music and Sound.

The production includes an award-winning live soundtrack with collaborations from sound designer Matt Padden and musicians Tyler Collins and Gameli Tordzro.
