Festive Firsts

The National Theatre of Scotland believes that theatre should be for everyone, irrespective of where they live, how much money they have or whether their life situation allows them to take part.

Since 2011, our Festive Firsts campaign, supported by companies across Scotland’s business sector, has enabled us to provide an inspiring first theatre experience for over 4,000 young people who otherwise would not have had the chance.

Rather than buying and posting Christmas cards (saving the environment and admin time in the process!), these companies have chosen to tell their contacts that they’re supporting Festive Firsts instead. And it’s not just for businesses – individuals are welcome to make Festive Firsts donations too!

In return for a donation, we’ll provide you with a beautifully designed e-card and social media badges, personalised for your company, (or with an individual or family name) for you to share with all your contacts, letting them know that you’ve helped give a first-in-a-lifetime experience for a group of young people.

You‘ll also receive an invitation to join us in the New Year here at our creation centre Rockvilla, for a special reception to celebrate Festive Firsts and share some of the work we created around young people in 2018.

2018 is Scotland’s officially designated Year of Young People and to celebrate this, National Theatre of Scotland produced a huge programme of work for young people across the year.

To build on this momentum and to celebrate the close of this landmark year in suitable style, we would love our annual Festive Firsts campaign to be bigger and better than ever before.

We would be thrilled if you would help us achieve this ambition.

By giving a corporate donation of £250 – £1000, you can provide this unique First Nights experience to young people in their named year.

A gift of £250 will provide an experience for up to 10 young people

A gift of £500 will provide an experience for up to 20 young people

A gift of £1000 will provide an experience for up to 40 young people

Festive Firsts Participants receive:

  • A bespoke National Theatre of Scotland workshop, where they learn about the production they are about to see – what it’s about, how it was made, the issues involved.
  • Alternative care provision for young people with family caring responsibilities
  • Return transport from their home to the venue
  • Packed lunch provided
  • A wraparound guided experience around the chosen performance, including:
  • a ticket for the show
  • a printed programme
  • an interval drink
  • the opportunity to meet members of the cast and the creative team after the show
