About Muireann Kelly
Muireann Kelly studied drama at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Gàidhlig at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. National Theatre of Scotland work includes Scotties, co-written by Muireann and Frances Poet, co-commissioned by Theatre Gu Leòr and National Theatre of Scotland. In 2018 with support from National Theatre of Scotland and Abbey Theatre, Scotties toured Scotland and Achill Island, in Ireland. In 2017 she directed the National Theatre of Scotland’s Last Tango in Partick by Alison Lang. She is the Artistic Director and founder of the contemporary Gàidhlig theatre company Theatre Gu Leòr. She directed Theatre Gu Leòr’s production MAIM in March 2020, Bana-Ghaisgich, Shrapnel in 2016 and Doras Dùinte in 2014. Other theatre work includes Tron Theatre’s tour of Ulysses to Ireland and China and off Broadway to 59 East 59, New York with Dundee Rep’s In My Father’s Words. TV work includes: Teacup Travels - BBC; Stòiridh Cbeebies BBCAlba BAFTA nominated Calum Dongle - Sorbier, Cardiac Arrest, Hamish Macbeth, Nightlife – BBC Taggart, Dr Findlay - STV, Season three Outlander – Starz. Theatre Gu Leòr won the Arts and Culture Award at the Scottish Gaelic Awards 2016 and was nominated in 2018. Muireann is one of the Irish Art's Council’s peer assessors.
