About Morag Fullarton
Director, writer and producer of Theatre and Television drama in Scotland, UK and abroad for 30 years. Morag trained at the RSAMD and on the BBC Drama Director’s Course. As Artistic Director of Borderline Theatre Company, throughout the eighties, she put on a wide range of new and contemporary work and was instrumental in growing their audiences and building a successful touring circuit. Working with major Scottish talents such as John Byrne, Billy Connolly, Liz Lochhead, Robbie Coltrane, Alan Cumming, et al. Whilst at Borderline she forged an enduring relationship with the Italian theatre maker Dario Fo, and presented and adapted the first translations of his plays in Scotland, and two world premieres in the UK. ( “the best productions of my plays outside of Italy” Dario Fo). Other theatre work has included productions for the Traverse Theatre, the Tron, Dundee Rep, Lyric Belfast and a placement with the Berliner Ensemble. Her directorial debut in television was of Sue Glovers script ‘Madam Montand and Mrs Miller’ for BBC, based on imaginary encounters between famous figures (in this case Marilyn Monroe and Simone Signoret). She subsequently went on to direct many award winning television dramas including This Life, Cardiac Arrest, The Grand, One Thousand Acres of Sky, Von Trapped, At Home With the Braithwaites (Emmy nominated), Taggart, Rebus, Scott & Bailey. As a writer she has written TV scripts for the Comic Strip, Taggart and River City; theatre plays for Borderline, Wildcat, Dundee Rep, the Scottish Youth Theatre , won two Fringe Firsts and written several plays for Play, Pie, Pint including – Mack the Knife, The Lying Bitch and the Wardbrobe, and Casablanca, the Lunchtime Cut, which went on to play in London, Paris, Barbados and tour nationally. For the Oran Mor she wrote ‘Doris, Dolly and the Dressing Room Divas’ which has been revived many times and will be performed in Edinburgh this Christmas. She is currently developing her first feature film, ‘Sacred Hearts’. Morag is also a regular guest lecturer on drama and film courses throughout Scotland, mentoring young talent in Theatre & Television Arts.
