About Jennie Bates
Jennie Bates (b. Glasgow, 1995) is a Glasgow-based illustrator who trained at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee. She works freelance across different mediums - murals and window displays, screen prints, digital illustration and 3D works. She uses paper cut-outs and collage to create her work giving it a dynamic and handmade feel.
Her work generally portrays familiar objects portrayed in unexpected ways, with a slightly surreal feel inspired by her love of collage. The objects float about in the composition and suggest the presence of people without actually portraying them.
She has a qualification in Community Development, is a member of Glasgow Connected Artists’ network and has worked in participatory arts for clients such as Fife Contemporary, Howden Park Centre and RIG Arts. She has worked with a range of private and corporate clients, and previously worked on a COP 26 project in Paisley for OneRen. Oz! is her first project with National Theatre of Scotland.
