About Fiona Mackinnon
Fiona is a Scottish-based theatre director, and facilitator.
She is most passionate about unique collaborations that bring new audiences to the theatre – be that with a classical musician, or female rugby players!
Born in Scotland, Fiona moved to Hong Kong at the age of 11, before moving back to the UK to study a BA(hons) in Drama at Bristol University (2012). She then went on to receive a scholarship to study an MA in Directing Classical and Contemporary Text (2015) at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
As a freelance theatre director, her highlights include working with Classical Pianist Marieke Bruening on Summer Heart at the Tron Theatre, Glasgow, directing the wee one's Christmas show at the Beacon Arts Centre Flora's Fairy Challenge, creating new writing project The City That Never Sleeps in Hong Kong, and I Can Get Along Without Shoes on my Feet, which was performed at The Arches as part of On The Verge Festival, and developed with The National Theatre of Scotland.
She has also worked as a community director and has got a lot of enjoyment collaborating with large community casts on 'VDay: The Vagina Monologues' and 'Educating Bristol', a new piece of writing about Bristol icon Mary Keller.
She works as a visiting Practitioner at the University of Cumbria, where she has directed Comedy of Errors, and Mermaid by Polly Teale.
Fiona has worked as an assistant with various directors in Scotland. Most recently on The Three Sisters with Lung Ha Theatre Company, directed by Maria Oller, and on Meet Me at Dawn, Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, directed by Orla O'Loughlin.
