About Elias Rooney
Elias David Rooney studied with Robert Irvine at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and then privately with Andreas Brantelid and Natalie Clein. During his time at the RCS he gained extensive experience playing string quartets and won all available prizes for chamber music. He has also recently performed with the highly acclaimed Edinburgh Quartet.
Elias has performed live on BBC Radio3, BBC Radio Ulster, BBC World Radio, RTE Lyric FM and Classic FM. He has toured and recorded with Evanescence, Foy Vance, Belle and Sebastian, Ronan Keating, Alfie Boe and Katherine Jenkins.
Elias is currently the cello teacher at Glenalmond College and combines this with freelance orchestral work throughout the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. He has worked with the orchestras of English National Opera and Scottish Ballet, the Ulster Orchestra and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. He is also a member of the award-winning Belfast Ensemble, a Belfast based collective of artists bringing cutting edge, cross-disciplinary performance to audiences in Northern Ireland and beyond. Elias plays a cello by Kai-Thomas Roth.
