About Annie George
Born in Kerala, India, and based in East Lothian, Annie George is writer, theatre maker and occasional filmmaker, ‘...one of Scotland’s most powerful and interesting writer-performers’ (The Scotsman).
Recent productions include ‘Twa’, a collaboration with visual artist Flore Gardner, and the solo shows ‘Home is Not the Place’, and ‘The Bridge’ which toured Scotland and to the Nehru Centre London.
She was awarded the Ignite Fellowship (Scottish Book Trust 2019), the Inspiring Scotland Bursary (Saltire Society/Scottish Book Trust 2016), and has been a playwright mentor for Playwrights Studio Scotland.
Annie directed ‘I Knew A Man Called Livingstone’, and ‘Nzinga: Warrior Queen’, both by Mara Menzies; and has also trained in Radio Drama Directing (BBC Stages of Sound).
In short film Annie wrote and produced ‘At Rana Plaza’; produced and directed ‘Curry and Irn-Bru’, a Real To Reel Award winner, screening widely at international festivals; and was Actor/ Development Producer of ‘Daddy’s Girl’, winner of numerous international awards including Prix Spécial De Jury for Short Film, Cannes Film Festival 2001.
