One Day to Play (Call for applications)
14/12/2017 - 20/12/2017
One Day to Play is a paid opportunity for four artists to experiment across art-forms and to generate a brand new idea, curated by Ashanti Harris (Project X) and Camara Taylor (Transmission). One Day to Play is open to all artists from across all art-forms – though we are particularly interested in hearing from dance and visual artists. There is no experience level requirement.
Four artists will be selected from across different art forms and will be matched into pairs, invited to share their practices and approaches to making work. Artists will be facilitated and guided and over the course of one day will work towards presenting the seed of a brand new idea at Just Start Here on the 26 January in Glasgow.
Through this opportunity, we hope to seed cross-pollination of different forms and sectors, bringing artists together and encourage artists to consider and seed new models of collaboration.
How it works:
On Thursday 25 January 2018, the day before One Day to Play the four artists will be brought together for an intro session. They’ll be matched up, introduced and will discuss different models of cross-art-form making as a group. In their pairs, the artists will then be given some ‘conversation guidelines’ and sent off to get to know each other.
The next day, on Friday 26 January, the pairs will be given a provocation to get them started and introduced to the materials, costume, props and technical equipment that is available to them throughout the day. They’ll spend the day together sharing their practice, considering and creating a brand new cross art-form idea – with access to dedicated rehearsal space at Rockvilla.
At 7pm that evening they’ll present their idea to an audience as part of Just Start Here at Civic House, Glasgow.
Dates: Thursday 25 and Friday 26 January 2018
Location: Rockvilla, 125 Craighall Road, Glasgow G4 9TL
Payment: Each artist will be paid a day and a half at National Theatre of Scotland’s development rate, a total of £149.73.
Expenses: Travel bursaries and expenses will be made available to successful applicants based more than 25 miles from Rockvilla.
How to get involved:
There is a short application process to apply for One Day to Play via our online system Submittable which can accept written, audio and video applications. Please note that the questions we ask as part of this process are prompts – you don’t need to answer each question. They are there to serve as guides as to the areas the panel would like to hear your thoughts and responses on.
Applications close on Wednesday 20 December and artists will be informed of the outcome of their application by Tuesday 9 January.
Criteria for selection will be based on:
– how excited the panel are by the artists’ articulation of their practice
– who is most likely to benefit from the opportunity
