Internationally-renowned theatre director Anthony Nicholl has travelled the globe on a life-long quest to discover the true essence of theatre.

Today he gives a masterclass, demonstrating first-hand, the methods he developed in Africa and Asia.

Promise, an aspiring actress, has been chosen to participate. What unfolds between them forces Nicholl to question all of his assumptions about his life and art.

How to Act explores the contemporary realities of personal, cultural and economic exploitation through two individuals drawn together in the world of theatre. Both believe in truth, but each has their own version of it.

Written and directed by Graham Eatough

How to Act Student Symposium

To support the National Theatre of Scotland’s production of How to Act, we will be hosting a number of symposium events for students in higher and further education. These events will invite students to explore how the play was made through a choice of workshops. Graham Eatough and specialist practitioners from the National Theatre of Scotland will lead workshops in dramaturgy, playwriting and the devising process. The event will also be an opportunity for students from different courses to meet industry professionals and network with their peers.
These events will take place in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness where How to Act is touring during March 2018.
Please keep an eye on our website for more information, or contact Philippa Tomlin (Creative Learning Coordinator) to be added to a mailing list for this event. philippa.tomlin@nationaltheatrescotland.com
