Scenes for Survival | The Quiz

News Story

Sukhdeep is excited. After all, it’s not every day you get chosen to host your high school’s 30th Anniversary Reunion Quiz. A virtual catch-up with all his old classmates, and he gets to be the centre of attention - what could be better? But between the disruptive laughter, low-brow humour, and settling of old scores, he’s beginning to remember why he didn’t bother keeping in touch. Sanjeev Kohli stars in a hilarious new short co-written and directed with Isobel McArthur.

Produced by the National Theatre of Scotland, in association with BBC Scotland, Screen Scotland and BBC Arts' Culture in Quarantine project with support from Hopscotch Films.

"When we were approached to create something for Scenes For Survival, the remit was to make something a bit lighter in tone that still reflected lockdown. Isobel came up with the fantastic idea of a school reunion Zoom quiz; there aren’t many of us that haven’t suffered at least one interminable quiz since March, and a school reunion offers a myriad of comic and tragic possibilities that resonate with all of us. Too many possibilities in fact - having pinged a few drafts between us, the first one we recorded was about twelve minutes too long. So in went the knife, and what we’ve hopefully achieved is a funny short stand-alone piece whose fast-cut style offers a different texture and a few laughs"
