News Story

A new short piece from novelist Jenni Fagan, performed by Kate Dickie, and directed by Debbie Hannan.

Trapped in self-imposed solitude in her bedroom and cut-off from those she loves the most, a lonely woman struggles to come through the hellish, isolating odyssey of her illness. Isolation reunites Jenni Fagan with Debbie Hannan, who directed the 2019 stage adaptation of her stunning debut novel The Panopticon.

Produced by National Theatre of Scotland, in association with BBC Scotland, Screen Scotland, BBC Arts’ Culture in Quarantine project and Summerhall, with support from Hopscotch Films.

"It is a short piece inspired by my eighteen days in isolation just before Covid lockdown began. It was really difficult to write anything because I just felt really unwell and the wider environment was so shocking really, I wanted to help show one human story behind the headlines we were all seeing everyday.
