Karen is an experienced media and entertainment lawyer. She studied law at the University of Glasgow and McGill University, Montréal and then qualified as a solicitor in 1995 with top tier City law firm Slaughter and May, working in London and Paris. Following Slaughter and May, she worked in the Advertising, Technology and Media Practice of Reed Smith LLP, where she advised leading banks and other financiers, distributors and producers in relation to films, television programmes and other media projects.
Karen’s first move in-house was to Miramax to become Head of Legal and Business Affairs at Miramax UK, where she looked after all of Miramax’s European interests in film, theatre and television. Karen moved back to Scotland in 2002 and was Head of Business Affairs at Red Kite Animation Limited until 2016. She now runs her own media legal consultancy.
Karen has over 15 years’ experience in the media sector, is an associate member of BAFTA and is a former non-executive director of Scottish Screen.
