Janette Harkess is Director of External Relations at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, one of the world’s leading institutions in performing arts education.
A strategic communications and policy development specialist, she was Head of Media for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Prior to that she was Director of Policy and Research for the independent economic development network, the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) and has supported national and international arts and sporting organisations in developing their strategic visions and business plans.
A former journalist who has worked in senior leadership roles across national and regional newspaper titles, she was appointed in 2014 to the UK press regulator, the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), where she sits on the Complaints Committee.
Janette is also Vice Chair of Scottish Youth Theatre, a member of the Common Purpose Advisory Panel and an honorary Vice President of the Journalists’ Charity.
She also served as a Commissioner to the Poverty Truth Commission in Scotland.
