ARTIST AND COMPANY CALL OUT FOR TOURING PRODUCTIONS – THEATRE IN SCHOOLS SCOTLAND

For Artists

Theatre in Schools Scotland (TISS) is looking for touring productions for the school year 2024-25, as well as Associated Productions for January - April 2024.

Productions must be suitable for performance in school halls or classrooms, and cover an age band between Nursery – S2. Productions suitable for Secondary should also be suitable for P6 and P7 and be able to tour to Primary or Secondary schools or mixed groups. We are particularly interested in productions suitable for P2-4.

Only artists and companies based in Scotland will be considered for this programme.

Theatre in Schools Scotland is produced by the National Theatre of Scotland and Imaginate to support and develop the touring of high-quality theatre and dance performances to Scotland’s schools and nurseries. TISS presents an annual programme of productions for children and young people created by Scottish performing companies and artists, designed especially for school halls and classrooms, that can travel anywhere in Scotland.

TiSS are committed to working with as varied a group of artists and companies as possible across the programme of work, with a particular focus on underrepresented voices including disabled artists and artists from the global majority.

The programme has two strands:

  1. Fully Funded Production Remounts: Each year TiSS aim to remount two productions to tour to schools nationally. TISS will cover all touring costs and the cost of up to two weeks of rehearsal. The length of tours will vary but will mainly be between 6-8 weeks across Scotland. This does not include redevelopment time. These productions will usually be performed to audiences ranging from one class up to 120 pupils in a school hall, dependent on the specific production.

Touring within the school year August 2024 - April 2025

2. Associated Productions: Each year TiSS aim to programme two associated productions, which are fully funded to tour and also wish to tour into schools. TISS would support promotion, administration, and booking for additional schools performances. This may be a school-specific tour or an extension of a venue tour for young audiences where adaptions can be made to suit school buildings. As an associated production you would be part of the TISS programme, with TISS tour length depending on your other touring circumstances. Ideally within TISS you would offer a minimum of 10 days. TISS will provide a daily fee to cover the costs of this portion of your tour. Please get in touch with questions about your specific needs.

Touring January - April 2024 and within school year August 2024 - April 2025.

The programme will be selected by a panel made up of representatives from Imaginate and National Theatre of Scotland’s artistic and programming team. The strands will be considered together with the aim of creating a well-rounded programme across the full age range with a variety of choices for schools, both in scale and themes.
