Paisley People's Theatre Project

A year-long community engagement programme embracing the radical spirit of Paisley’s people

Paisley is a town with a vivid history of community spirit, solidarity and radical politics.

In 2021 the story of Paisley’s momentous past will be the heart of a new collaboration between the National Theatre of Scotland, Slung Low, Renfrewshire Leisure and the people of this historic town.

This large-scale participatory arts project, with National Theatre of Scotland’s largest ever community cast, will harness the revolutionary spirit of the town and unleash it for the 21st century as part of the Future Paisley Programme.

A year-long engagement programme, starting summer 2020, will look to develop extensive reach into the local community with classes and courses via Slung Low’s mobile Cultural Community College and months of in-depth workshops and rehearsals with professional actors and creatives.

Slung Low is an award-winning theatre company specialising in making epic productions in non-theatre spaces, often with large community performance companies at their heart.

Future Paisley is an ambitious approach to cultural regeneration that harnesses the power of culture to support positive social change.
