Paisley People’s Theatre Project | Victorious

2021-2022

Overview

Long Live the revolution

Paisley is a town with a vivid history of community spirit, solidarity and radical politics. In 2021 the story of Paisley’s momentous past will be the heart of a new collaboration between the National Theatre of Scotland, Slung Low, Renfrewshire Leisure and the people of this historic town.

In an uncertain world of quarantined dystopia, 20 years from now, it is Social Release Day: 24 hours during which people are finally allowed to return home. A brief chance for reunion and connection, but with Paisley’s radical spirits, it might turn into something else altogether – hope.

In Victorious, a community cast of hundreds come together with professional actors in an epic day-long, interactive, political and thrilling performance that celebrates and reignites the revolutionary past of Paisley. The drama will unfold on stages, in the streets and around prominent landmarks of the town. With dramatic encounters and surprising experiences, audiences wearing audio headsets will feel part of the production themselves, all sound tracked by some of the greatest Scottish pop songs of the last 40 years.

Directed by Alan Lane, Artistic Director of Slung Low and written by Julia Taudevin, one of Scotland's leading radical theatrical theatre-makers, Victorious invites you to take a stand and discover who wins in this revolution?

This large-scale participatory arts project will harness the revolutionary spirit of the town and unleash it for the 21st century as part of the Future Paisley Programme. Victorious will be performed in September 2022.
