A co-production between the National Theatre of Scotland and Improbable in association with Tramway

Conceived and made for the stage by Julian Crouch, Vicky Featherstone and Nick Powell.
Additional words by Neil Gaiman.

This is the story of Lucy, who hears creeping, creaking, crumpling noises coming from behind the wallpaper and is convinced that there are wolves in the walls of her house. Her jam-making mother, tuba-playing father and video game obsessed brother think the noises are really mice, or rats or bats. But they are wrong and she is right as they will all soon find out…

With an unruly pack of actors, musicians and crazy puppets, the show will make you laugh, shriek with horror and watch the action between the cracks in your fingers, because everyone knows… when the wolves come out of the walls, it’s all over.

The National Theatre of Scotland and Improbable are unleashing The Wolves in the Walls onto the stage. NTS Artistic Director, Vicky Featherstone, co-directs in partnership with Improbable’s Julian Crouch, whose work includes the unforgettable Shockheaded Peter and Jerry Springer the Opera. Nick Powell, best known for his haunting television scores and soundtracks for Suspect Culture provides the music and songs.

Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean have conquered the world with the Sandman series, Coraline and most recently MirrorMask, a stunning new feature film. Bookshops across the world are crammed with their work and Gaiman is a regular New York Times number one bestseller. Having expressed their unique vision through graphic and adult novels, children’s books, television and film, this is the first time the duo’s work gatecrashes theatre.

Improbable has made ten pieces of work to date being 70 HILL LANE, ANIMO, LIFEGAME, CINDERELLA, COMA, SPIRIT, STICKY, THE HANGING MAN, THEATRE OF BLOOD and STARS ARE OUT TONIGHT. Many of their shows have been made in collaboration with a wide variety of organisations including The West Yorkshire Playhouse, Wexner Center for the Arts (Columbus Ohio), The Walker Arts Centre (Minneapolis), Wiener Festwochen, UZ productions (Glasgow) and Amici Dance Theatre Company.
