2018 Breakthrough Writers

We are delighted to announce the 2018 Breakthrough writers, Gerry Griffin and Kevin Gilday, who are beginning work on two brand new plays, supported by our Artistic Development team and A Play A Pie And A Pint.

Gerry Griffin is a playwright and drama teacher from Moniaive in Dumfries and Galloway. Gerry originally trained as an actor at Manchester Metropolitan University and she has been a singer-songwriter for many years. She is best known for singing with The Oystercatchers, an Americana influenced duo. Gerry’s debut play, The Sea Maidens was long-listed for The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2017.

Kevin P. Gilday

Kevin P. Gilday is an award winning writer and spoken word artist from Glasgow. He has performed all over the world including the BBC 6 Music Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, Toronto Fringe, Vancouver Fringe, Wickerman, Belladrum, Lingo (Dublin) and Glastonbury. He has supported artists such as Saul Williams, Sage Francis and George the Poet. He is also the curator and co-host of Glasgow’s spoken word cabaret Sonnet Youth.

Kevin has published two pamphlets of his poetry (Notes From A Quarter-Life Crisis and The Man Who Loved Beer), one collection (Gigantic Lying Mouth), as well as releasing four albums and four EPs of recorded material. His collaborative single with The Sea Kings, Glasgow Overture, received national radio play on BBC 6Music. His writing has appeared in publications and websites around the world while his series of videos created for the BBC have been viewed by over a quarter of a million people.

His work has been seen at Oran Mor, the Tron, Assembly Roxy, Lemon Tree, Byre Theatre, Beacon Arts Centre, Village Pub Theatre, Eden Court, The Revue Stage (Vancouver) and Tarragon Theatre (Toronto). He has twice been shortlisted for the Scottish Short Play of the Year Award.
