Our Associates and Residents
Cora is a director, actor and songwriter based in Glasgow. She is Associate Director at the National Theatre of Scotland where her productions include Room (with Theatre Royal Stratford East / Abbey Theatre / Covent Garden Productions), Rites (with Contact) and Glasgow Girls (with Theatre Royal Stratford East/ Citizens, Glasgow / Pachamama / Richard Jordan Productions).
After 15 years of Acting across stage, film and radio (winning The Stage Best Actress Award for her role in David Grieg’s Midsummer), Cora started up her company Pachamama in 2009 and launched her first production Roadkill at the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe which won nine major awards including an Amnesty International Award for Freedom of Speech. It toured to Glasgow, Paris, Chicago and New York, winning an Olivier Award for Outstanding Production. Cora has a passion for experimenting with new forms of music-theatre, as seen in the Arches collaborative project she directed Whatever gets you through the Night featuring a wealth of Scotland’s most eclectic and original songwriting talent, GRIT-The Martyn Bennett Story celebrating Scotland’s folkdance maverick and two Fringe Runs of Janis Joplin -Full Tilt. She wrote half of the songs for the recent adaptation of Room along with Kathryn Joseph, and composed six of the songs in her musical Glasgow Girls.
Artist in Residence
Nic Green is an award winning performance maker based in Glasgow, Scotland. For twelve years she has worked across performative disciplines, with projects commissioned both nationally and internationally. Her work is varied in style and method, however her work is more generally concerned with the possibilities of reciprocity, in the contexts of liveness. Forms are often ‘found’ through collaborative and relational practices with people, place and material, creating main stage dance/theatre performance, intimate story-telling performances for woodland environments, large scale live sonic compositions for outdoor spaces, sited audio works for one audience member at a time and physical/vocal works for studio theatres to name a few. Her work has received several awards, commissions and recognition including A Herald Angel, ‘Best Production’ at Dublin Fringe and the Adrian Howells Award for intimate performance. Most recently she made Cock and Bull (winner of Total Theatre award for Best physical/visual theatre), and TURN (with support from the Callouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s Sharing the Stage Commission). She also teaches Directing at the University of Glasgow, and looks forward to several exciting new collaborations in 2018.
Stewart is Artistic Director of Untitled Projects, which he formed in 1998.
Previous work with National Theatre of Scotland includes Confessions of a Justified Sinner (2013, Tramway, Summerhall; Dublin Theatre Festival 2014, Ystad Theatre Festival 2014; and the Edinburgh International Festival 2015).
His work with Untitled Projects include: The Salon Project (Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, a second edition of The Salon Project was presented in 2013 at the Citizens Theatre and at the Barbican in London as part of SPILL Festival of Performance.) J G Ballard Trilogy, 2000; blind_sight, 2004; Slope, 2006; An Argument About Sex, 2008; and Slope Redux, 2014.
Stewart originally trained as a theatre designer at Central School of Art and Design in London and has worked extensively as a theatre designer throughout the UK and internationally. He has designed for the West End and Broadway, winning a Tony Award in 1997 for his work on the musical Titanic. Recent design credits include work for The Old Vic in London, The Park Avenue Armory in New York and The Royal Opera, Covent Garden.
Writer in Residence
Martin has held the post of Writer in Residence with Firefly Arts and The Children’s Hospice Association Scotland, and his work has been developed and supported by Playwright’s Studio Scotland and a National Theatre of Scotland Writer’s Attachment.
Current projects include The Mark of the Beast (Platform); An Audience With…(Janice Parker Projects); Turntable (Red Bridge Arts and MJ McCarthy, part of Made in Scotland at the Fringe 2017); and Building a Nation (Glasgow Life, Scottish Tour). Artist in Residence
Adura Onashile is an award winning Glasgow based artist whose work is known to Scottish and international theatre audiences. She has been a part of the British Council Edinburgh Showcase and has worked with companies such as Untitled Projects, Royal Shakespeare Company, Young Vic, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Chicago Shakespeare Company and St Anne’s Warehouse, New York.
She wrote and performed the award-winning HeLa the true story of Henrietta Lacks. She wrote and directed Expensive S**t, which premiered at the Traverse Theatre at the Edinburgh Festival and toured to The Southbank Centre and The Soho theatre, London. The sold out show won a Fringe First award and the Edinburgh Guide Best Scottish Contribution to Drama 2016.
She has directed shows with the CYC company at Contact, Manchester and is developing a new play with the Traverse theatre, a film commission through the BFI vision award with Barry Crerar, is a part of the BBC Writers Room and a Royal National Theatre Step Change Participant 2017.
Named in The List magazine 2016 HOT 100, she was described as “creating politically charged and provocative work, Onashile is proving that she simply cannot be ignored”.
Company in Residence
SUPERFAN is a new contemporary performance company comprising of Ellie Dubois, Peter Lannon and Kim Donohoe. This Scotland-based company makes compelling, thoughtprovoking work that takes a playful approach to exploring complex ideas. They recent won the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust award to present a new create and present a new show Nosedive at The Barbican in 2019. Nosedive is performed by three adult circus performers and two ten year old children. For us this performance is a way of asking the question: ‘if this is all we have, how do we prepare for an unknown future together?’ We wanted to create a space to see things magnified – a place where all the performers have is each other, where we can see their different bodies and relationships in close-up. Current productions include: Like Animals and Stuntman which will both tour Scotland in 2020, as well as Little Top – a circus show for babies 0-18 months and their adults (in association with Starcatchers) which will also tour in 2020. Work in development includes FEELS, a performance for ages 10+ about identity, dancing, and school discos, and Salt of the Earth, a circus show made in collaboration with Scottish folk musician Sarah Hays created to tour around village halls in Argyll.
