Developing Projects and Production Opportunities
The National Theatre of Scotland exists to commission and create the most engaging and diverse theatre for audiences in Scotland and beyond.
We do this by working with established artists and companies whose work inspires and excites us.
Projects are selected for development and are considered for production by the Company’s artistic team, led by Artistic Director Laurie Sansom.
Though we aim to remain flexible and responsive to new short-term ideas, we currently programme our work approximately a minimum of 18 – 24 months in advance of production. Prior to this, we often foster and develop projects over a number of years until each project has reached its individual ambition.
We only invest in the development of a new piece of work if we believe it could form part of a future National Theatre of Scotland programme, but we are not always able to realise a production for each project we support.
