Diaspora 09

Diaspora returned in 2009 in partnership with Tramway, Glasgow, and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. It ran from November 23rd to December 6th.

Diaspora 09 is a project that reaches out to international theatre practitioners of great repute and brings them to Scotland to share, discuss and demonstrate their practice in collaboration with Scottish artists.

During Diaspora, these explorations are supported through a programme of master-classes, workshops, sharings and talks. The practitioners work with students from RSAMD and professionals from the theatre sector. The resultant programme is then shared with an industry audience.

Artists involved with Diaspora 09 included Lee Breuer (Micocci Productions, New York City) and Pascal Lecoq (Le Coq School, France). See links on the right of this page to find out more about this year's participating artists.

Also included in the programme for Diaspora 09 were a series of rehearsed readings by new or emerging playwrights based on assignments given to them by the National Theatre of Scotland's Artistic Development department. Called Gestate, this intensive nine-month programme challenged five writers to stretch their aritstic practice to the limits.
